Seth

Seth- “I bitched out? You bitched out, man, you fucking Judas”.

Seth is one of three main characters. His best friend is Evan they have known each other since they were eight years old, his other friend is Fogell. The boys are seniors in high school and they only have two weeks left before they graduate. Seth is the wild guy of the three that speaks his mind no matter what people say. In the beginning of the movie Seth picks Evan up on the way to school and they discuss their frustration of going to separate colleges and having to go to college as virgins. Seth and Evan arrive at school and go to a mini mart as they discuss that they should do to get together with their crushes “Jules” and “Becca”. When Evan starts to talk about Becca his crush Seth seems put off and always starts talking negative about her. Seth feels threatened because Evan is already going to college without him next year, but also because he feels that Evan would let a girl get in between their friendship.

Seth’s personality is very sex crazed and seems very desperate to want to have sex with any hot girl that would say yes. He has a crush on a popular girl named Jules, but knows in his mind she would never have sex with him let alone would date him. Seth has a lot of insecurity issues and uses sex and a badass persona to cover up his true self. During Home Ec class Seth was paired up with Jules and during their class they bond for a bit and Jules invites him to a party she’s throwing that evening. During lunch time, Seth tells Evan a story of when they were younger Seth had an obsession of drawing penises. Becca found a of his drawings and turned him into the teacher and his parents sent Seth to counseling. This is the reason why Seth hates Becca.

 

After being invited to Jules’ party and the boys are asked to buy alcohol with Fogell’s fake ID he bought from a friend. Seth even though he is friends with both Evan and Fogell he is quick to talk about them and put them down and make them feel bad for no reason. After Fogell convinces the guys he can buy alcohol for the party, their evening gets broken up and the guys get separated.

                        

Mid way through the movie Seth and Evan fight about who their friendship has changed and Seth tells Evan how much he’s pissed that they don’t feel like friends anymore and that once in college they will forget about each other. After finding Fogell and arriving at the party they drink and get drunk. Seth kisses Jules and tells her what his plan was, she tells him she does not quite feel the same way only because he is drunk and is not in the right mind frame. After feeling vulnerable and being turned down Seth tells her how he really feels this is before head butting her in the eye as he’s falls and hits the floor.

At the end of the movie Seth and Evan though they are drunk they apologize for how they treated each other and expressed how they really love each other as best friends, something they don’t do when they are sober. Seth is a sensitive guy, but feels that he has to act tough because he feels that showing any sensitive part would be weak.

Conclusion

In the movies Superbad there were many character transformations that took place in a short amount of time. All three characters matured and realized a new piece of growing up. At the end all three guys were able to get the women that they were interested in and had the opportunity to create a  relationship. Seth, Evan, and Fogell received a much needed confidence boost right before college.

Introduction/Background

The movie Superbad is a comedy film about three friends Seth, Evan, and Fogell, they are three seniors into their last two weeks of Highschool. The movie begins with Seth picking up his best friend Evan, and they are on their way to school. Seth and Evan talk about next year going off to college, Evan and Fogell are going to Dartmouth and Seth is going to a community college. The boys are worried about going to college as virgins so they try their best to have sex with their crushes “Becca”, “Jules” and “Nicola”.

Fogell Character Analysis

FOGEL “I am McLovin!”

ALIAS: Fagel, Mclovin

Fogell is in the group of High School friends Seth and Evan.  Fogell seems to be the typical sex deprived geek in high school that is trying to make himself known to people and lose his virginity before he leaves to college. He tries to show confidence and “coolness” by trying to show that he is “down”, but he is extremely technical. For example, Fogell gets a fake id and talks about how he can get everyone alcohol, but when it comes time to do it he gets cold feet.

Fogell starts opening up a little after an attack in a liquor store and runs into a pair of cops that are looking to kill the persona of the “typical cop”.

Fogell begins to open up because he thinks the cops don’t know his age. Fogell and the two policemen continue to cause chaos while doing everything that everyone suspects cops of doing, such as running through red light with their sirens on.

Once the escapades with the cops end Fogell runs back into Seth and Evan with what looks like way more confidence and not being worried about getting into trouble. The confidence show alot once Fogell makes it to the party and is able to talk to a girl he had been eyeballing for awhile.

Fogell ends up being the only one that was able to fulfill the nights mission and lose his virginity even if it was short lived because his cop buddies bust into the room.

At the end of the film Fogell aka Mclovin goes through a complete formation as a character and has a new found confidence. He is able to talk to girls and becomes less worried about what might happen. He also gets to start off his freshman year of college looking like a bad ass thanks to his cop friends.

 

 

Evan: “Yeah chicks go nuts for that… the male camel toe.”

Evan is one of three main characters in the movie Superbad. Seth and Evan want to hook up with their crushes before leaving off to college but need help from Fogell a.k.a. “McLovin” with his fake I.D. to get alcohol for a big party that night. Seth and Evan are best friends and are not going to the same college. Seth is sort of a porn addict and Evan is a nice quiet kid, perhaps smart as well. Evan gets called a “faggot” by Jesse who seems to be their bully because he and his friends are not very popular students. While in class Evan gets caught by Becca staring at her cleavage. Evan and his friends usually just drink beers and watch porn in his basement. Evan is very friendly and gets along with his home-ec partner very well. Nobody believes that they will not be going to the same college. Evan likes Becca and defends her when Seth talks trash about her. Evan doesn’t like to participate in P.E. and prefers to stand in the middle of the field. A guy bumps into Evan causing him to touch Becca’s boob. Evan brings a condom and a tiny bottle of spermicidal lube and that makes Seth furious because he forgot to bring a condom and mocks Evan. At a random party Evan gets mistaken for “Jimmy’s brother” who is very good at singing, so he is forced to sing for a bunch of cocaine-snorting buddies. Evan gets thrown in the middle of a fight. Evan resents Seth for not letting him make new friends or date. Evan and Seth get detained after Seth is run over by a cop car that Fogell is riding in and end up evading from the cops.

Evan: “I’d give my middle nut to start dating Becca.”

Evan is devastated that the bottle of Goldslick for Becca broke on the bus. He has a chance to sleep with Becca, but she is drunk and he doesn’t want it to happen that way. Evan tries to get drunk in the restroom in order for both of them to be drunk. He tries, awkwardly, to avoid having sex with Becca, but she is very persistent until she pukes on the bed. Evan Ends up drinking on the couch until he passes out and Seth carries him out of the party when the cops show up. They end up having a sleepover at Evan’s house and say “I love you” to each other. Evan makes fun of Seth when he is pant shopping for college. Evan and Becca end up buying comforters together at the mall. He is now able to move on, on his own without Seth and start to date Becca.
